I am most fulfilled when I see a girl make informed life choices and maximize her potentials. As girls navigate adolescence to womanhood, they face the challenge of moving through physical, psychological, sexual, and emotional development with a healthy sense of self intact. Girl-pro provides a protected mentor-mentee safe space for the adult woman and the girl/young woman to connect through shared experiences.
The Girl Mentor
My experiences as a black woman who was born and raised in Nigeria inspired me to start Girl-Pro Africa (GPA), as I have encountered many young girls who would have had better life outcomes if they had mentors and older sisters who could act as confidantes and counsellors on their journey through life. What began as an online safe space has grown into a full-fledged non-profit organisation with the aim of empowering and mentoring the next generation of African female leaders and professionals (women ages 18–29) and connecting them to opportunities for career and self-development through a unique mentor-mentee connect programme to give them a head start and empower them to make wise life decisions.
The goal is to motivate the next generation of African women to be even more competent, confident, and brilliant in their pursuits despite the colonial legacies and reality of black “otherness.” If you are a female professional or leader who is African and over 30 years old, your life experiences are priceless.
